Whether you’re a country fan or not (which I am not) no doubt you will have a blast in Nashville. I now understand why it’s called the “new Vegas”. Our good friends were celebrating their 40th birthday in Nashville so we had the pleasure of going along with 20 other people! To summarize the trip there’s a lot of eating, drinking, singing, dancing….and more drinking. Highly recommend staying close to “Honky Tonk Row” downtown. We stayed three nights at the DoubleTree Nashville Downtown. We booked about a year in advance so got our rooms for around $200/night. Rates go up quick or sell out so I would book as soon as you can
First night the birthday couple treated us all to dinner and drinks at Puckett’s Grocery & Restaurant. If you go you have to get the shrimp and grits! They are served with jalapeno pancakes which were oh so good. After full bellies we headed to the rooftop bar at The Stage on Broadway. There’s three levels so a little hike up to the top but worth it! With the breeze that comes in, great bands/vocals, and good jams we danced the night away.
Next morning we all hopped on the NashTrash Tour bus with the Jugg Sisters. Tour lasted two hours, which maybe 10 minutes of it was touring Nashville. The rest of the time is spent laughing until your face hurts, belly aches, and you feel like you can’t laugh anymore. The sisters were spot on with their characters and the raunchiness made it so much better. Highly recommend if you’re in Nashville looking for something different to do.
After the bus tour we ate a hearty brunch at Biscuit Love. If you’re a foodie and love breakfast food, brunch, mimosas, or biscuits you’re heading to the right spot. Must haves: donuts (fried biscuit dough, tossed in sugar, topped with lemon mascarpone on top of blueberry compote), churros (fried biscuit dough, tossed in cinnamon & sugar, served with chocolate gravy), potato casserole (3-cheese potatoes & cheese baked on top). Last but not least, the locals there recommended we combine two orders; the east nasty and the princess. They call it the “nasty princess”. Buttermilk biscuit, Nashville style spicy boneless hot chicken thigh, aged cheddar, and gravy.
After a meal like that naptime was in order. So after a quick refresher we headed out on the town to Florida Georgia Line bar, Kid Rock bar (loved their rooftop view), then had to go back to Stage on Broadway. Clearly one of our favorites. Ended the night with a crazy good hot dog at Big Daddy’s hot dog stand by the Stage. Cream cheese, grilled onions, peppers, secret sauce…everything you need after drinking all night!
Last day in town and we definitely did it up right. Get your uber or lyft and head to Urban Grub in the iconic 12 South District of Nashville. Their seafood buffet was one of the highlights of the trip. You get one plate and one plate only to pile on as much food as you can for only 28 bucks. Crab legs, shrimp cocktail, meats and cheeses, shrimp and grits, andouille sausage, pastas, etc. I want to go back just thinking about this plate of food!
Next we headed to the Johnny Cashmuseum (which was just ok). Super fans probably won’t want to miss. Started the bar hopping day at Bootleggers for some day drinking and live music. Then Acme Feed & Seed (had a Chip and Joanna Gaines feel to it), Roberts (old time classic country bands), then ended the night at Second Fiddle (best band of the weekend).
